Where can I print from?

Any computer in the PC/Mac labs, or Print Lab. ONLY one computer in the print lab prints to the CANON Pro printer. 

How do I know if a printer is down or a paper type is out?

Signs on the print lab door & mac lab doors are updated when paper is out or printers are down.  

How do I pay for prints?

1. Load money on your 49er card (via ‘deposit’ on aux.uncc.edu). 


2. Purchase a print card from a print lab employee.

 

3. Log on and enter the print card code into your paper cut account under the ‘redeem’ tab. Include dashes when entering the code. 


4. Money should then appear in your green paper cut balance box (top right corner of your computer screen).

What paper cut card amounts are available?

$1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50

Can I print double-sided? No
How do I print offline for plotter prints?

1. Make sure you have a papercut account is set up. 

  • Confirm this by logging onto a computer (a green box in the upper right hand corner should pop up) or ask a print lab employee. If you don’t have an account, inform a print lab employee. 


2. Open your file in Preview (if on a Mac), or in _____ (if on a PC) as a PDF, TIFF, JPEG, etc. Make sure you image is rasterized/layers are off.  


3. Under the ‘printer’ tab, select the correct printer and paper type you desire.


4. You may only send ONE copy or page at a time to the plotters. You may have to select ‘Pages: From: 1 to 1, 2 to 2, etc.’


5. Select paper size and select ‘manage custom sizes.’ Click the ‘+’ on the left. Make the width, in inches, the width of the paper you are printing on. Make the height your desired height. The MINIMUM print length is 12 inches. Ensure margins are set at .25 


6. Scale your image to 100% to have it print the original size it is designed as,  OR you can check the box to fit the entire page, OR you can set a custom scale percentage. 


7. Press print. Once you press print and see the green confirmation pop up box  your print has been sent. 



How do I print offline for letter/tabloid?

1. Use the same instructions as above, except you may print multiple pages at once. 


2. When selecting the correct printer and paper type you desire, make sure you select it based on cardstock/color or not as well.


3. Select the paper size as letter (8.5x11) or tabloid (11x17) and select ‘manage custom sizes.’ 

How do I print to the CANON Pro?

1. Tell a print lab employee so they can load specific paper into the printer. 


2. Print from the specific computer wired to the CANON Pro, ask print lab assistant which one it is. 


3. Follow the same procedure as above, except select ‘preview’ tab → ‘quality/media’ → then select the paper you are printing to. Ask a print lab employee for help if you are unsure.


4. Make sure you have money in your paper cut account, as you will be charged manually and given your print after your username is provided.  

Will my job still be sent if I press print and don't have money in my account? Yes. Once you press print your job is sent to the the queue and can be held there until you have available funds. Your job will not print until money is in your account and your place in the queue will be maintained.
What does it mean if parentheses are located around my green papercut balance box? Your account is in the negatives and you need to pay off your account balance.
Can I print when the print lab is closed? Yes. You may send a print before or after hours. Your print will be sent when the print lab opens in the order it is received in the queue.
What happens if I don't pick up my print the same day I print it? Prints will be kept until the end of the week on Friday at 3pm and then are discarded.
What jobs will be sent first? Jobs are released on a first come, first serve basis.
What programs do I need to print from? Preview for a Mac, _____ for a PC.
Who can print here? Anyone whose major is: Architecture, Art & Art History, Dance, Music, or Theatre.
Can I bring my own paper to print on? No.
Are there printing tutorial videos Yes. There are video tutorials running on digital displays in Storrs 230. These can also be found on the coaa.uncc.edu website on the print lab page. Note: You will need to be logged in with your uncc account to view the video.
Why does banding (lines lines) appear on my solid colored prints? Select high quality settings on output.
What are the print lab hours? Hours are posted on the print lab and mac lab door. Hours are subject to change during review times.  
How do I know if my job was sent?
  • A green confirmation box will display indicating that your job was sent.
  • You may also check the printer icon at the bottom dock. 
How do I know if my job was printed?
  • Check your papercut account balance. The cost of the job should have been deducted. 
  • Check you paper cut account print job log. 
Why is my job not printing?
  • Confirm that you have a paper cut account. 
  • Confirm the PC Client is open (the green balance box should appear in the top right corner of the computer screen). 
  • The plotter will only accept ONE page at a time. Confirm you did not submit multiple pages.
Can I see samples of the paper types? Ask a print lab employee for the sample book.
Can I get a refund?

You may only get a refund when a printer based error occurs (ink smudges, torn paper, the print never comes out of the printer/no materials were used, etc.). You will not receive a refund if the print was set up inaccurately (size/paper type/dimension set up). 

NOTE: If you are not completely sure your print is set up correctly, ask a print lab employee for help. 


See examples regarding what job types will or will not be approved. If you receive a refund, you are not allowed to keep your print. 

How do I request a refund?
  • Login to your paper cut account 
  • Click ‘recent print jobs’ 
  • Click ‘request refund’ and provide the reason for the request. 


The refund will have to be approved manually by print lab employee, pending that it meets refund criteria. 

How am I charged for the plotter? You are charged per linear foot (length per every 12 inches).
How do I check my 49er card balance?

Check online or ask a print lab employee. 

How do I check my paper cut balance?

Log onto a computer with pc client installed.  On the top right of the screen, you should see a rectangular green box with the balance or ask a print lab employee.

Can I have free paper or paper supplies for the RICOH printer next door?

No, even a blank sheet of paper must be printed through the system. The print lab does not supply paper to the RICOH printer next door.
